Beautiful Pictou County
Pictou County – The Home of New Scotland Beautiful Pictou County sits at the centre of the north shore of Nova Scotia on the Northumberland Strait. We are known for our long sandy beaches, our vibrant and caring towns and villages, our numerous summer festivals, our gifted musicians, our talented athletes, our incredible scenery and our great seafood. We are home to a campus of the Nova Scotia Community College. Major employers include Sobeys and Empire corporate head offices and Michelin Tire Canada. The first settlers from Scotland landed in Pictou County aboard the Ship Hector in 1773. Since then many newcomers from many countries have joined together to build a dynamic and industrious region in the heart of Nova Scotia. And they are still arriving!
Getting to know your neighbours and getting involved in Pictou County is as easy as joining one of our numerous service groups, charitable organizations, choirs, churches, sport teams, clubs or special interest groups or our dynamic YMCA. Or you can volunteer at one of our music festivals or for any of the many fundraisers we hold throughout the year for everything from Big Brothers Big Sisters to the Dragon Boat races.
